Advances in Detecting Breast Cancer

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the United States and is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women. The number of deaths related to breast cancer has decreased by approximately 39% since the 1980s, which is thought to be due to early detection with screening mammography, increased awareness, and advances in cancer treatment. This lecture will explore the latest technical advances in breast cancer screening and diagnosis using medical imaging with mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis (3D mammography) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We will discuss the impact of early detection in women with breast cancer and explore emerging technology in breast cancer screening.
